Tutorial: LiteOn drive freezes during erase

Here’s a tutorial that came from iXtreme.net

Here’s how to recover your Liteon drive if your PC freezes during the erase process. You are not screwed and your drive is not bricked. It just has no firmware on it. This is why it wont eject. Follow these instructions to fix your drive.

Step 1: Disconnect the drive from your computer [SATA & Power] and turn your computer on like normal. If using a connectivity kit you should just be able to leave it off.

Step 2: Open up JungleFlasher and click on “Open Source Firmware”, select the dummy.bin from the drive that seems to have died.

Step 3: Click on “Open Source Firmware”, and open up the iXtreme Lite-On firmware[you can also click yes when it asks you to auto-load the firmware, at the end of step 2 -- if you have the firmware in the "firmware" folder of JungleFlasher]. Then click “Spoof Source to Target”, and then click “Save to File”, name it “liteon.bin” and save a copy somewhere you can easily access, you’ll need it in the next step

Step 4: You can now close JungleFlasher. Download L-O-Erase & Dosflash 16. Create a bootable USB drive. You can also create a bootable SD card with a usb adapter. Place L-O-eras, Dosflash,Dosflash.typ and your created liteon.bin file on the bootable USB drive.

…The Following steps may be easier if you disconnect all other drives…

Step 5: Restart your computer leave the drive DISCONNECTED, and boot to the USB drive. Connect and power on the Liteon drive. Type “dosflash”. It will show you one drive but it won’t tell you what the name of it is, like the rest of them will. It should also have a 256KB Flash Size. the 4 numbers/letters right the word “SATA” are your drives port, remember that or write it down. Hit escape.

Step 6: Type l-o-eras ____. The blank space is replaced with the port you found in Step 5. [Ex: if your port was ECF0, you’d type l-o-eras ECF0, all 1 line. You will have to do this a couple times. until it gives you a status of FF72.

Step 7: Power the drive off then back on, and type dosflash. Type in the number of your Liteon drive from the list. NOT THE PORT NUMBER!!! (for me it was 4)

Step 8: Type “w” for the write option and enter “liteon.bin” and hit enter. Wait until it says it is complete.

You should be good to go. Turn the drive off and on and hit eject. If it ejects the drive is done.
