iXtreme 1.51 firmware and JungleFlasher 0.1.59 released for Xbox 360 – Download it here

March 6, 2009 · 97 comments

iXtreme 1.51 Firmware has just been released for the Xbox 360. This releases fixes all new games that contain the 3rd wave in the video partition, which is due to Microsoft adding the Fall 2008 NXE Console update to the disc. The prior iXtreme firmware will not boot disc containing a 3rd wave, due to the firmware checking the crc of the video partition, looking for ‘wave1′ and ‘wave2′ only, now that there is a ‘wave3′ in the partition, the firmware rejects the disk.

Now, all newer games such as MLB 2K9 and Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X will boot without issues if running the latest version of ixtreme 1.51. For all you previous Xbox 360 flashers out there, updating your firmware should be no problem at all. If you saved your initial firmware, or key dump, you can use JungleFlasher to spoof your new firmware.

Download iXtreme 1.6 Firmware here.

Download all iXtreme 1.51 Firmware, click here.

JungleFlasher tutorial for all drives, click here.

If you’re looking for just JungleFlasher 0.1.51 , download it here.

JungleFlasher has been updated to 0.1.59, download it here.

You can also download the Stealth Firmware with Xbins, which can be found here.

When I hear any news on ABGX being updated, I’ll pass that around also. Even though the Stealth Game Tom Clancy H.A.W.X is playing now, it’s nice to verify that everything is Stealth verified.

Alright, in the process of flashing my Liteon DG-16D2s right now. I’ll let you know how it goes :)

james March 7, 2009 at 12:10 am

Okay, flashed it from 1.5 to 1.51. Playing Tom Clancy H.A.W.k :)

Do have to say, for about 15 minutes, I thought I bricked my drive. I was in the process of erasing the drive, when all of a sudden, my pc stuck, and had to reboot it. So using the ck3 kit, It wouldn’t even eject the drive, so I knew the firmware was wiped, but it wouldn’t find it in I/O Port.

Was pretty worried there. Turned out, all I had to do was in the MTK Flash 32 tab, click on Intro/Device ID.

Some reason, it found it, and I was then able to write to it. Go figure.

Dont know why, but for some reason

when i updated i updated with iprep and ixtreme 1.51 it say it flashed succesful but when i put in my old games it just recognizes it as a dvd. when i hit play it says you must put this disk in a xbox 360 console. Any ideas never had this problem before????

caine March 7, 2009 at 8:13 am

So i did the firmware update. but i used the tab “Dummy from ixtreme”.
saved the dummy etc etc. auto load new firmware. then spoofed file to target. and saved it. after that i went to MKT flash 32. used erase command. etc etc. and write it.

But can you also use your first dummy.bin that was red with the probe?
the dummy file from ixtreme 1.5?

midiandy -> You can still dump your key from your Hitachi drive. I’m guessing you’re running iXtreme 1.4 right? Yeah, should be no problem to dump the key out of it, and create the 1.51 firmware. Let me know if you need any more help.

bmb1127 -> That’s really strange. I just tried some of my older games, like GTAIV, and it worked. What drive do you have?

Reply

james March 7, 2009 at 8:58 am

caine-> I’m really not sure. What do you mean red with the probe? I take it you have a Liteon drive right? I did the Liteon last night, did it the longer way than what was stated how in the JungleFlasher tutorial, but, everything ended up working. If I do my friends Liteon drive, I’ll try the way you’re talking about.

bmb1127 — same thing with me. Ive been going at this for a good 2 hours. I had my friend also create the hacked bin with my orig firmware and it says its completed and written, but it tells me in order to play i must pit it in a 360 console.

I have a benq.

Ricky March 7, 2009 at 5:23 pm

I didnt use jugglar. I used dostools or w/e if that matters

reflashed and now my old games play again but when i put in my backup copy of HAWX it will not play. I backup with kreon drive and xbox backup creator. Is this not the way to do the new games? Also ben q drive. updated with i prep.

bmb1127 March 7, 2009 at 6:06 pm

oh yeah when you update you just copy the backups folder from you original firmware into the iprep bootable usb right?

james March 8, 2009 at 8:11 pm

Crazyc – What kind of drive do you have? The only time you need to get the CK3 kit, is if you have a liteon drive. If you do, then yeah, order the CK3 connectivity kit and probe.

Ok instead of using jungleflasher, can I use the method of booting into Dos and then read/write the fw? Im still on IX1.41

Reply

james March 8, 2009 at 8:17 pm

s54flexin – You can do it that way. But to tell you the truth, you can do it all from the Windows GUI with jungleflasher. However, if you feel more comfortable, you can use the dos command to read, erase, and write the firmware.

thanks for the reply james do i have to restore the drive 1st or can i just reflash over 1.4 its an hitachi 79 drive

Reply

james March 9, 2009 at 9:42 am

midiandy, in JungleFlasher, you have to restore your drive first. Once it’s restored, then you can flash it to ixtreme 1.51.

Remember you have to get it in Mode-b before you can do any restoring and flashing.

You can either use Slax, or the built in function in JungleFlasher. I’m talking to my friend, and he couldn’t get Jungleflasher to get it in mode-b, so he used the Slax method. Has to be Slax 2.1

Reply

midiandy March 9, 2009 at 9:51 am

thanks for the help can i just use the slax disc i used to flash it with 1.4 im not sure if its 2.1 but it worked

Reply

james March 9, 2009 at 9:55 am

I’d use the 2.1 Slax. I haven’t flashed any hitachi’s, but my friend has who I’m talking to, and he pretty much said, that only 2.1 would work for him.

He found Slax 2.1 on thepiratebay.org

Hi just read some of these posts, I am a hardcore xbox360 fan and bought one since release date. I’ve successfully modded all drives on the 360 without a single problem. All in all modded about 10 xbox360′s for friends. Just a quick question i’m new to the flashing of the new liteon drives. Just wondered I thought liteon drives could only be read and not written to as apparently they have write protection to stop you from writing your modded firmware?

Is it possible someone could let me know if jungleflasher 1.51 beta can actually write to this drive aswell?? Any info would be greatly appreciated as I have googled for this answer many a time without a reply?? Thanks

Reply

james March 16, 2009 at 7:40 pm

Joe – When it comes to flashing Liteon drives, you can flash them, but you have to dump the key via a Connectivity kit, and with the use of either a probe or, if you have the knowledge, you can solder R707 on the pcb.

These are the only drives as of yet, that require you to dump the key using a Probe or soldering.

To answer your second question, yes, Jungleflasher can write to the liteon drive.

Before ixtreme 1.51 came out, I had 1.5 on my liteon drive. Whats nice with JungleFlasher, is once you’ve flashed it, you don’t need the connectivity kit to upgrade the firmware.

It’s only the first time you get the key, do you need to use this connectivity kit.

If you need to flash a liteon, I recommend purchasing the CK3 connectivity kit lite, and the CK3 probe, specially since it sounds like you might be doing this alot for your friends.

Hi James many thanks for replying to my post regarding the liteon flashing issue I had. I’m officially a member of IXTREME.NET so any noobs are also welcome for any advice I have on modding any other drives as I am sure I can be helpful as I have much other experience in modding all the other 360 drives and also experienced in repairing xbox360′s such as fixing the 3red lights and E74 errors. I will try and post a reply a.s.a.p If any one needs help. Also James I will concider purchasing the ck3 kit, Is there much difference between the pro version and lite version? and also will concider buying the probe as I am not clued up on how to solder and wish to not have a bricked drive due to bad soldering. One more question as well james I have an ASUS M2N SLI MOTHERBOARD that I have used for flashing every 360 drive i’ve come across with no problems what so ever, However I have installed jungleflasher 1.51 and was wondering if you can only connect a 360 drive and jungleflasher recognise it only if it’s connected with the ck3 kit through rs32 as I had problems when trying to flash an hitachi v59 drive using it as my computer just froze up when trying to read the firmware from the drive? And again much respect go’s out to all involved in modding the 360 we could not have taken the first step without you.

Reply

james March 17, 2009 at 9:45 am

Joe – Many thanks!

The only main difference between the lite and the pro, is that the lit uses a RS232 connection, while the CK3 pro, uses a USB connection. Since more newer pc’s don’t have the RS232 serial connection, it might be worth getting the pro. But that’s the real only difference.

When I bought mine, I just got the CK3 lite, since my box had the RS232 serial port.

Using jungleflasher, it should recognize it whether you’re using the CK3 kit, or if you’re just going from the drive to the Sata port.

Joe March 17, 2009 at 12:42 pm

Many thanks James. I just ordered the ck3 pro including probe to be able to extract the key. Have you any decent tutorials you could recommend on using the ck3 pro with probe please. I have read in a few forums that people have experienced problems when extracting the key with the probe and those who have bridged the connection have had a good dump of their key? I would seriously hate to brick this drive. But I should imagine it would be highly likely if I made a sufficient amount of dumps of the firmware and checked the keys first would you imagine? I was just wondering also is it possible if when writing to the drive if it was to fail would I still be able to write to it?

I can remember when the liteon drives first came into circulation, and a friend asked me to mod it. At the time I could’nt seem to find a softmod for the liteon and all the forums were saying you had to solder a switch on to the pcb which I did not fancy. Apparently I stumbled across 360 textbook 2008 and that had a softmod tutorial in there that I followed to a T before flashing. I was extremely nervous about bricking my friends drive as it was the first benq I had attempted to flash. During reading the firmware the lights on the xbox360 would change to red. I thought I may have bricked the drive but I definatley made sure of backing the original firmware up to my usb stick, therefore if all went wrong I should be able to flash back to the original firmware. To be honest I think many people disregard reading the tutorials fully and this is when there problems arise. I would fully recommend downloading a few different ways of flashing the drive your wanting to flash to any noobs out there and MOST IMPORTANTLY – (MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP THAT ORIGINAL FIRMWARE AND KEEP IT IN A VERY SAFE PLACE!!). Countless times I have heard people in forums saying I’ve bricked my drive and forgot to keep my original firmware. Anyhow thanks for listening and happy modding :)

Joe – I wish I would of got the probe, I’m actually thinking about getting one, in case any of my friends who want to flash it, I can do without soldering their drive.

I soldered my drive, and the key dump worked excellent.

No worries on if your computer freezes, mine did exactly that. For about 15 minutes after I rebooted my pc, and not able to find my drive, I thought it was bricked.

Luckily in jungleflasher, all you have to do, if this happens to you, is click on the MTK 32 tab, then click Intro / Device ID

Also, when I originally dumped my key, I did it twice. Then, I emailed myself a zip of the keys, just for safe keeping.

Thanks for your reply james, and thanks for the info on the liteon problems i.e computer freezing up. Thats very helpful information for people who think they bricked there drives. I did’nt know wether to just dump my keys and firmware using jungleflasher then use dosflash to erase and write the hacked.bin – custom firmware to the drive as some people in the forums say its safer and have had less problems this way. I have had more experience using dosflash and firmware toolbox 4.8 and never tried to flash any drive as of yet with jungleflasher. I will be tempted to give it a try first though I much prefer a GUI based flashing technique than having to manually type in commands in dosflash. Many thanks for your help and support james.

Also my computer just froze up on me when attempting to put the drive into mode b with jungleflasher. I’m sure there will be a solution to the problem LOL.

Also, download and use the latest ABGX, which support Wave 3 on those new games.

I don’t know, but I flashed my friends Hitachi using my CK3, and my pc never froze. Probably something with the hardware.

If it keeps freeing, you’ll have to use the slax boot disc

hey james thanks for the help is that something i could do myself or should i go back to the guy that originally flashed my xbox? and also whats all this wave 3 stuff about?

Reply

james March 18, 2009 at 7:20 am

nikster – wave 3 was introduced this month, basically, Microsoft is putting the fall 2008 console update on the video partition of the disc, thus creating a 3rd wave. And by default, all ixtreme 1.5 firmware, will reject to play a 3rd wave.

I’ve been doing this for a while and I have the BENQ drive. So i said screw it I’ll try then new jungleflasher, well it froze my computer every try! So I just use jungle flasher to spoof the firmware then renamed it and boot up in dos and write it to my drive . I guess if it aint broke don’t fix it. But can anyone tell me why did it keep freezing. I can get it all the way to vendor mode then it will lock up. Good program though, if it would work for me. But I did find a new and easy way to spoof my orig.bin and hacked.bin. Good deal. And when is 1.6 coming?

Reply

joe March 18, 2009 at 1:04 pm

Hi scotty dawg 1, I experienced the same problem, but I have taken note to what james has posted above and I was not using the ck3 with jungleflasher I had the drive hooked up with the old executer connectivity kit v2 and my nforce sata port on my motherboard. Saying that my xecuter kit v2 was already in modeb to boot it into windows so I suppose this is why jungleflasher locked up on me. Ive ordered the ck3 so I should be recieving it soon. This is the first thing I will try as soon as I get it, I will definatley post back and let you know if I still run into any problems. It’s as if jungleflasher was specifically put together to be mainly compatible with the ck3??. I used the same method as you yesterday when upgrading my hitachi v59 to ixtreme 1.51. I was originally on ixtreme 1.4 so I ran the ixtreme 1.4 restore.bat and restored my drive to original firmware. Next I opened jungleflasher and made a hacked firmware with my original and ixtreme 1.51, But instead of using dosflash to erase and write I just opened firmware toolbox 4.8 and flashed the hacked firmware to it from within windows with no problem at all. Then again concidering you have a benq. I have only ever found it safe enough to flash benq’s within dosflash the same as you. I would be tempted to try jungleflasher with the ck3 to do it though. Just remember you can’t go far wrong as long as you make a correct flash dump of your original firmware, then you have nothing to worry about. Thanks for your time in reading this.

Hi nickster, just to answer your question relevant to what you asked james. A word of advice whoever flashed your drive in the first place for you should hopefully have been kind and clever enough to have saved a backup of your original firmware from your drive prior to flashing it. Specifically you need the original firmware for the very purpose of what you are wanting to do. I preferably would advise restoring your drive back to its original stock firmware first then creating the ixtreme 1.51 firmware from your original firmware. It’s much safer to flash this way as many other people would probably agree. I seriously would not recommend witing or patching hacked firmware over a previously hacked firmware as this has had dramastic results for some people and they ended up bricking there drives. If you could let me know what drive you have nickster I would be more than happy to help you with the situation you are in. I currently have a hitachi v59dj and I could not find my backup firmware but I knew not to worry as I just ran restore.bat within the ixtreme 1.4 folder and it successfully restored my drive back to stock firmware. It basically unpatches the changes you made to the drive in the first place and your drive key still stays the same. So if you have a hitachi drive I would say your quite safe. Goodness I got a little carried away with this post LOL. Anyhow I recommend you checkout http://www.ixtreme.net/ you will find some excellent tutoeials on there regarding flashing andmany other things. Hey why not sign up its great and we could spread some new light on these different topics that are popping up. Thanks for your time

james March 18, 2009 at 8:19 pm

nikster – If you can, try and take it back to the guy who flashed it, see if he’ll do it. If not, then as long as you have a desktop with a SATA connection, you’ll be able to flash it. It’s not that hard, if you already have ixtreme 1.5 on it.

Reply

james March 18, 2009 at 8:21 pm

scotty dawg 1 – yeah, jungleflasher can be a real pain the ass sometimes. I had the same issue awhile ago, so all I used jungleflasher for, was spoffing the firmware, and used Dosflash 32 to read, erase, and write.

Next time, used dosflash for your Benq flashing, it’s the best out there. Can do it all from the Windows GUI, and works perfect.

1. Yes, latest is 1.51
2. If you go with DosFlash, you only using JungleFlasher to spoof your default firmware, with ixtreme
3. Don’t worry about this, dosflash will do this all for you, from the Windows GUI.

Checkout the following post, i wrote this for 1.5, but It’ll work for 1.51 as well

Hi there dinesh, just viewed your post on here. To be honest I was extremeley nervous when flashing my friends benq vad6038 drive as I had never flashed one before. The way I did it was,

1.Use IPREP – you can download the latest version from xbins, check out http://www.ixtreme.net/ for more tutorials and info.

2.I used IPREP to prepare my usb flash drive with the relevant ixtreme firmware for benq and make sure it patches your sata port settings using iprep to the flash drive. I am not entirely sure wether the chipset your using actually supports flashing or not as I have personnally never tested with this chipset allthough in some forums I’ve read jungleflasher supports that sort of chipset using the ck3 and jungleflasher. As I use nforce 5 chipset. Also make sure you have dosflash16 on the root of your usb flash drive after you have prepared and formatted with IPREP.

3.I personally downloaded 360 textbook, which I am sure you will find on xbins. It’s in pdf format and I would advise to print it out. There is excellent tutorials in it for all 360 drives exept for the liteon drive as of yet. I would recommend following the benq vad6038 drive flashing tutorial to a T before attempting flashing. Also make sure before you erase or do anything during dosflash to backup and read your original drives firmware first and save it in around 3 different places. Hope this helps

Also after backing up your original benq firmware you want to power off the the pc and 360 boot back into windows and create your ixtreme 1.51 firmware. You can use firmware toolbox 4.8 to do this or the new jungleflasher it makes this process very easy. Then copy your hacked firmware you created back onto your usb flash disc. To be honest it’s quite hard to brick a benq drive. As long as you follow the tutorials you should not have any worries.

Feel free to let me know how you get on and if you run into any problems and maybe I can help you out. If you like join our forum on http://www.ixtreme.net/ you will find a most helpfull service on there. Thanks from Joe

Hi there dinesh, just done a little research on your issue regarding the intel ich7 chipset you have, and found this answer on the afterdawn forums.

I just modded my ms28 successfully on the first attempt, and I needed to get a VIA VT6421A chipset Serial ATA RAID PCI Controller Card to use to read/write the firm ware. My motherboard has an onboard ICH7 chipset but I read over and over again that this chipset isn?t compatible with ms28. Make sure you don?t need the VIA VT6421A chipset like everyone else has??..unless some recent developments were made that I am not aware of.

However regarding what the person states above, I don’t think it would do you any harm to try and make a bootable flash drive using IPREP which should patch your sata controllers detials into dosflash if using the latest version of IPREP. Just boot into dos and try and read your firmware using your bootable usb flash drive you just made with iprep. There’s no harm in trying it to see if it works, it’s the only feasable option I could suggest you do to see if your sata chipset controller is compatible. Thanks for listening. If worst comes to the worst, the least thing you could do is just go out and buy the VIA sata card for flashing your drive or get a better compatable chipset such as one with an nforce 4 or 5 chipset. From Joe
